Report on funding for pensions and welfare sounds warning

An unpublished report is sounding a warning about funding for state pensions and social welfare in the future.

According to the Irish Times, the research – which was commissioned by the government – highlights a gap worth 324 billion euro between the state’s liabilities and the money that’s there to meet them.

The review of the Social Insurance Fund was completed in June.

Maurice Whyms is chairman of the Irish Association of Pension Funds – he says the report puts useful figures on a problem they’re well aware of.
