Round-up of pledges by some of Clare’s General Election candidates

There are calls for the East Clare hinterland of Lough Derg to be vigorously promoted as a leisure destination as part of a drive to attract more tourists to the area.

Clare Fine Gael General Election Candidate Cllr. Tony Mulcahy believes the initiative could also help with efforts to encourage more airline services through Shannon Airport, particularly from Continental Europe.

He believes communities in the vicinity of Lough Derg such as Killaloe, Mountshannon, Clonlara, O’Brien’s Bridge and Scarriff are in prime position to capitalise on this potential”

Clare Labour Election Candidate Michael McNamara says the party is committing itself to doing everything possible if elected to government, to restore Shannon Airport to commercial viability given its critical role in the Midwest.

He pledging their support on three key areas

Increased passenger connectivity, the development of a major international cargo hub at the mid west airport and the establishment of a humanitarian aid logistics centre to allow for Europe to respond rapidly to natural disasters worldwide.

As part of its Pre-Election campaign, The Carers Association is hosting a ‘Meet your Candidates’ event in Clare for family carers and election candidates this morning, February 23rd  in The Old Ground Hotel, Ennis, at 11.30am.

The Carers Association is urging family carers to attend the event  to give them the opportunity to speak to election candidates on what they need the new Government to implement for more support and recognition for family carers.
