Ennis Hospital is among a number of facilities in the Midwest where scheduled care is being deferred.

The UL Hospitals Group has confirmed that due to high volumes of patients at University Hospital Limerick’s Emergency Department, elective and day surgery as well as outpatient appointments are being deferred until further notice at UHL, Ennis, Nenagh, St. John’s, Croom Hospitals.

The decision comes on a day when 127 admitted patients were waiting for a bed at the Dooradoyle Facility.

The Emergency Department at UHL remains open 24/7 while injury units and medical assessment units at Ennis, Nenagh and St. John’s are operating as normal.

Speaking on the decision, HSE Mid West Regional Executive Sandra Broderick says the group understands it’s “very difficult for patients who have in some cases already faced long waits for their appointments and “staff will be working over the coming days and weeks to ensure affected patients are rescheduled as soon as possible”.
