Another murder investigation is underway following the fatal shooting of a man in Dublin yesterday evening.

31 year old Declan O’Reilly was gunned down while out walking on the South Circular Road with his girlfriend and an 11 year old boy.

Meanwhile, investigations are continuing into the murder of Gerard Eglington in Laois yesterday.

The 27 year old was shot dead in his home in front of his two children in Portarlington.

Gardaí say the victim knew his life was in danger – and are linking his death to an attack at a Dublin pub 18 months ago.

Officers also say there’s no link between the two murders over the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile Fianna Fáil is calling for the Garda Commissioner to appear before the Oireachtas Justice Committee, following the recent spate of violent killings.

Since the weekend, five people have died in attacks –

Fianna Fáil’s Justice Spokesperson, Niall Collins,  says communities around the country are concerned that the  gardaí  may not be equipped to tackle crime in their area
