Seven allegations of abuse at Clare schools run by the Christian Brothers have been disclosed to a Government inquiry.

A 700-page report commissioned by the Government on historical abuse at Irish schools has found there were 2,395 allegations of sexual abuse across 308 schools, made in respect of 884 distinct alleged abusers.

Two allegations of abuse in respect of two alleged abusers were received in relation to both Ennis CBS Primary School and Kilrush Primary School.

Two allegations of abuse at the Ennistymon CBS Secondary School were received in respect of one abuser while one allegation pertaining to one abuser at Ennistymon CBS Primary School was made.

Minister for Education Norma Foley has stated that in light of the report’s publication, a commission of investigation will be established.

Victims’ advocacy groups want the Commission of Investigation into reports of historic sexual abuse at some religious schools to be carried out in an “expedient” and “victim-centred manner”.

Co-founder of Restore Together, Phillip Feddis says the inquiry should be sensitive to abuse survivors
