Shannon Chamber President Claims Lack Of Government Engagement Is Prohibiting Local Development

The President of Shannon Chamber believes developers and proprietors of vacant buildings need to be provided with incentives in order to boost housing supply.

It comes as the Economic and Social Research Institute has called on the government to introduce a tax on commercial construction in order to meet the needs of the growing population.

There are currently 2,790 households awaiting an offer of social housing here, with over 50% of this group seeking accommodation in Ennis and Shannon.

Shannon Chamber President Eoin Gavan says the state’s reluctance to engage with the local authority is preventing the necessary development.
