A Clare GP is encouraging young people to sign up for their vaccine at their local pharmacy, following a surge in Covid cases in the past week.

From Monday, Pharmacists will begin giving out Johnson and Johnson vaccines to people under 35, so anyone aged 18 to 34 can register for the single shot vaccine and get it sooner, if they sign a consent form.

The vaccine portal for 30 to 34-year-olds to get the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines will open next Friday, while from July 12th, 18 to 34-year-olds will be able to register for Astrazeneca.

Dr. Yvonne Williams says the sooner young people get a vaccine the better.

The Shannon GP has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill they’ve witnessed a surge in Covid queries and positive cases in both unvaccinated and vaccinated people in recent days.
