Shannon Health Forum Chair Claims Children’s Hospital Is Solution To Spine Surgery Waiting Lists

A Shannon Sinn Fein Councillor claims the opening of the national children’s hospital is the real long term solution to relieve the numbers on waiting lists to receive spinal surgeries.

It follows the decision to send children awaiting spinal surgeries to hospitals in the United States for treatment, following the implementation of a similar scheme in the UK.

The Department of Health has confirmed the package offered to eligible families will include the cost of flights and accommodation.

Shannon Councillor Donna McGettigan, who’s Chair of the HSE’s Regional Health Forum Committee, believes while the children’s hospital provides the long term solution, many children would become ineligible for paediatric care while it’s awaited.
