A medical expert has identified shortcomings in the care of Savita Halappanavar at Galway University Hospital prior to her death following a miscarriage last October.

Microbiologist Dr Susan Knowles has found the medical team should have been ‘actively managing’ the 31 year old as her condition deteriorated due to infection.

It’s day 5 of the inquest into the 31 year old dentist’s death from septicaemia.

Earlier Praveen Halappanavar’s solicitor Gerard O’Donnell confirmed his client would not be attending the inquest today, as it has been taking its toll.

Outside the coroner’s court this morning, he said Praveen was satisfied that the truth is starting to come out.
