A retired GP says health services in parts of North Clare would be overburdened, without the HSE’s clinic for Ukranian refugees.

There’s around 1,000 people who’ve fleed the war-torn county now being accommodated in the North Clare town, with 20 patients on average attending the clinic each day.

Dr Gerry Wheeler is among a number of medical professionals, including GPs and nurses, who are offering their services to help people displaced by the conflict.

The clinic is open three days a week and Dr Wheeler says there’s steady demand for the service, but he says they’re coping.
