Eight Syrian refugee families have arrived in Ennistymon this week.

37 people, 21 of them children, have been re-located to the North Clare Town under a Refugee Resettlement programme led by the UNHCR

Clare County Council says they're spending the first week in the town "familiarising themselves with the area" and that they're receiving assistance from the Department of Justice and other agencies.

Continued support will be provided by the council going forward, as well as others including TUSLA, the HSE, The Limerick and Clare Educational Training Board, and the county's Childcare Committee and Immigrant Support Centre.

It's the second group of Syrian refugees to arrive in Clare, after nine other families moved into the Shannon and Sixmilebridge areas last year.
