The Taoiseach says route options for a proposed Greenway project linking Scariff with Limerick City will be finalised later this year.

The proposed Greenway will cross the River Shannon over the Black Bridge and follow the old Errina canal to Clonlara and O’Briensbridge and onwards to Killaloe and Scariff.

A pinch point has been idenitifed at O’Brien’sbridge, as the ESB says it can’t have a greenway with tourists walking along the embankment at Parteen Weir.

Responding to a question from Clare Independent TD Michael McNamara in the Dáil, Leo Varadkar says proposals to allow use of ESB lands for the Greenway are currently being considered by the ESB and further meetings are envisaged.
