Team To Be Established To Ensure West Clare Benefits From Future Moneypoint Plans

It’s claimed the town of Kilrush has yet to see any economic uplift stemming from ongoing activity at Moneypoint Power Station.

An agreement was reached between EirGrid and the ESB last year to designate the power station as a backup electricity supplier from 2025 to 2029 as it moves away from coal burning activities.

With an estimated 600 employees currently on-site, Kilrush Independent Councillor Ian Lynch is urging Clare County Council to establish a working group to ensure the market town sees the benefit of having such a large employer on its doorstep.

Councillor Lynch believes local businesses aren’t benefiting from activity at Moneypoint as accommodation shortages in the area are forcing workers to stay in Ennis and further afield.
