Teenager hospitalised after row at Ennis wedding

A teenager’s being treated in hospital following a brawl outside Ennis Cathedral where members of the travelling community were attending a wedding.

A number of weapons including what’s believed to be a slash hook were recovered by gardaí  who have described the public order incident in Clare’s County Town as appalling.

This row, understood to be between members of two families erupted shortly after 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon in the car park of Ennis cathedral

During the wedding ceremony one of the guest stepped outside into the yard between the cathedral and the parochial house when he was set up by a number of individuals armed with several weapons including a slash hook and a Stanley type knife.

Its reported he suffered a head wound but didn’t seek hospital treatment while a 16 year old – also believed to be a wedding guest sustained facial injuries and was admitted to hospital.

Investigating gardaí  subsequently recovered a number of weapons, and while no arrests have been made they say an investigation is ongoing and developments in the case are likely over the coming days.
