Town Councils brace themselves for possible decision on their future

The Mayor of Kilkee has called for Town Councils to be protected from cutbacks, ahead of today’s cabinet meeting which could see their future determined.

It’s understood that Environment Minister Phil Hogan’s plans for local government reform could be signed off on by cabinet at their weekly meeting this morning. 

Local representatives in Ennis, Kilrush, Shannon and Kilkee have been bracing themselves for a reduction in the number of Councils and elected representatives, after the Minister said earlier this summer that such a move is ‘extremely likely’.

However, Mayor of Kilkee, Fianna Fail Councillor Claire Haugh is calling on Phil Hogan to reconsider his position
