The number of patients waiting for a bed at the region’s main hospital has exceeded the 100 mark once again.

The latest figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation shows there were 102 admitted patients waiting for a bed at University Hospital Limerick this morning, 44 of those in the Emergency Department.

The overall figure is 38 more than the next busiest facility; Cork University Hospital.

It comes after outpatient appointments and elective day surgeries at the UL Hospital Group’s five Midwest facilities were deferred for three weeks last month, as part of an escalation plan to alleviate overcrowding at UHL.
