A two-year planning extension has been granted for a major housing development on the outskirts of Ennis.

Callahan and Walsh Construction Limited sought the extension for the 51-unit project for which planning permission was first approved in 2019.

Clare County Council approved Callahan and Walsh Construction Limited’s application for a development consisting of 51 residential units in Loughvella on the Lahinch Road, Ennis on February 27th 2019.

Planning permission was granted for a period of five years for the construction of 51 residential units made up of two two-bedroom detached dwellings, one three-bedroom detached dwelling, 42 three-bedroom semi-detached dwellings, six four-bedroom semi-detached wellings, and all associated site works.

Following the expiry of the planning permission on February 26th of this year, the developer submitted an application for a two-year extension on the duration of the planning permission on April 17th.

The developer noted that “almost all units have now progressed to varying points” as five have been roofed, two have been plastered, four are at truss level, two are at floor joist level and four have scaffolding erected with construction of walls due to begin.

The application states that while a two-year extension is being sought, “the development will likely be completed in advance of this but this time frame would provide sufficient time to overcome any unforeseen delays”.

Responding to the applicant, the planners report notes that “given the pace of the development progressing, it will likely be completed within the time frame sought to be extended”.

The extension was granted with no conditions on June 6th – with February 4th 2026 established as the new expiry date.
