UHL Remains By Far Most Overcrowded Hospital In September Despite 20% Annual Drop

The number of patients on trolleys at University Hospital Limerick has fallen by 20% in the last year.

New figures from the Irish Nurses and MidWives Organisation show 1,735 patients were documented without hospital beds at UHL this month.

It marks a reduction of over 400 patients from the 2,174 recorded in September of 2023, though the INMO’s trolley county does not include weekends or bank holidays.

 

The level of overcrowding at University Hospital Limerick was still by far the highest in the country this month though and was 27% above that of the next busiest facility, Cork University Hospital.
