The founders of the Willie Clancy Summer School in Miltown Malbay have been praised for their social and cultural contribution as the late Muiris O’Rochain was honoured posthumously at the University of Limerick.

Speaking at an honorary conferring ceremony for the late teacher who passed away last October, UL President Don Barry told those gathered that Muiris was "a model of selfless social action for the betterment of the cultural life".

He also paid tribute to Harry Hughes, Martin Talty, Junior Crehan, Séamus Mac Mathúna, Peadar Ó Lochlainn and others who have brought thousands of people to Ireland every year for the Willie Clancy Summer School.

Accepting the honorary doctorate, Muiris O’Rochain’s widow Una ui Rochain put the success of the festival down to simply recognising the natural cultural assets we have in Clare
