The work of the late Muiris Ó Rócháin- founding member of the Willie Clancy Summer School in Miltown Malbay will be recognised at UL today.

An Honorary Doctorate is being awarded posthumously to the Dingle native for his contribution to local culture and community life, and ultimately to his promotion and development of Irish traditional music on a national and international scale.

The 67 year old who passed away last October , founded the Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy with Martin Talty and Harry Hughes in 1973 in honour of the great Clare piper who died that year.

UL is also presenting two other honorary doctorates today to John Herlihy of Google Ireland and the former editor of the Irish Times Geraldine Kennedy while Doctor Patrick Hillary is among the previous recipients of the award.
