Urgent calls for dedicated cardiac programme for West Clare

The HSE’s been accused of discriminating against people in West Clare and is being urged to roll out a Cardiac Arrest First Responder Programme in the area.

It comes just days after a RNLI volunteer used his life saving skills to save a man struck down by a heart attack in Kilkee – with the patient treated for some time at the scene before an ambulance arrived to take him to hospital.

Kilrush Councillor Ian Lynch, claims Health Officials appear more concerned with cost cutting than the provision of services, and believes increased commitment needs to be shown by the provision of a first responder service for cardiac emergencies

Councillor Lynch says such a system has already been successful in County Wicklow, but is needed even more here in Clare – he’s hopeful the new Government will act on this
