Hope has been expressed that what’s been described as a “needless objection” will be quashed, so that much-needed houses can be built in the Newmarket On Fergus area.

Planned upgrade works on the local treatment plant hang in the balance, due to an appeal of the planning application due to alleged circumvention of planning and environmental legislation.

Clare County Council refused to grant planning permission for the construction of 51-unit housing development in the village in 2020 due to what was deemed inadequate sewerage infrastructure.

With a decision on the appeal due this coming March, Fianna Fáil Councillor Pat McMahon says it’s vital the upgrades are carried out so housing developments can go ahead in the future.
