Visiting restrictions remain in place at the region's main hospital following an outbreak of influenza.

There were ten confirmed cases of the bug at University Hospital Limerick, which is above the national average for this type of infection.

The restrictions have been now been eased, but only one person per patient is allowed during visiting hours.

The UL Hospitals Group says all control measures remain in place, but it's urging those with flu symptoms, people feeling unwell in general or anyone under the age of 16 to stay away from the Dooradoyle facility at this time.

The Health Protection and Surveillance Centre has urged people in high-risk groups to get vaccinated as the number of reported cases of influenza-like illness in Ireland has increased in the past week.
