It’s claimed the rise in grocery costs is deteriorating Clare people’s quality of life.

Figures from Kantar have found the Quarterly Average Households Grocery Spend is expected to rise by €176 if shopping habits don’t change.

The figures show that the average 12-week grocery spend in the third quarter for Irish consumers could jump to nearly €1,900 due to the current high levels of price inflation.

Coordinator of the West Clare Family Resource Centre, Mary O’Donoghue, says many people are having to decide between paying for food, rent or transport.
