West Clare residents have been invited to an information meeting on the controversial ‘fracking’ method tonight, organised by opponents of the practice.

A UK-based company, Enegi Oil, has carried out tests which show that a 500 square kilometre area of the Clare basin could be suitible for fracking, and is seeking an exploration license to carry out further tests.

However, those against the practice say it would hurt the county’s environment, and have appealed to farmers and food producers in particular to attend tonight’s meeting at the Stella Maris Hotel, Kilkee from 7:30.

Roisin Garvey of Clare Fracking Concern says it’s an issue affecting large portions of West Clare.
