A young student from West Clare is in a serious condition in hospital following a road incident in Galway City centre.

According to gardaí  the injured man fell from the bonnet of a vehicle and suffered head injuries in the early hours of Thursday morning.

This incident happened at about 12.30 at Eyre Street in Galway close to the taxi-rank area, when the 20 year old student made his way onto the bonnet of a car.

Eyewitnesses then told gardaí  that the vehicle – which had been stationary – started to move off and the West Clare man then fell off and hit his head on the ground.

He was rushed to University Hospital Galway before being transferred to Beaumont in Dublin where he’s being treated for serious head injuries.

The driver is understood to have fully co-operated with Gardaí, who have also spoken to a number of other witnesses and they are still appealing for others who were around the Eyre Street area of Galway City in the early of hour Thursday to contact them.
