Woman Airlifted To Hospital Following Fall In North Clare

A woman has been airlifted to hospital after she was injured in a fall in North Clare this afternoon.

The woman, understood to be in her mid-40s, sustained a lower leg injury in the accident that occurred in sand dunes near northeast of Fanore.

Emergency services were alerted at around 10.15pm.

Members of the Doolin unit of the Coast Guard responded to the incident while National Ambulance Paramedics were dispatched to the scene.

The Shannon-based Irish Coast Guard helicopter, Rescue 115, was also requested to respond. The helicopter was able to land close to the scene.

The injured woman was assessed and treated at the scene before being carried by Doolin Coast Guard volunteers to the helicopter.

The casualty was airlifted to University Hospital Galway for treatment.
