A stalwart of the Clare traditional music scene for almost forty years will be laid to rest today.

Born into a musical family, Cyril carved out a reputation for himself as one of the finest singers and accompanists in traditional Irish music, playing with bands such as Fisher Street, Damp in the Attic and Providence.

In recent years, Cyril has been best-known as the musical partner of Blackie O’Connell and has been one of the most recognisable faces of the traditional music scene in Ennis and Doolin.

A celebration of Cyril’s life will take place at Shannon Crematorium at 3pm today.

To remember Cyril and his musical legacy, Alan Morrissey was joined by Cyril’s daughter, Joanne Begley, Damian O’Rourke of Cuppa Tea TV and Musician and Storyteller, Oliver O’Connell.
