Organ Donation Bill Passes Through Dáil

The President is expected to sign a new Bill in the coming days which means adults here will be considered organ donors – unless they register to ‘opt out’.

It follows the passing of the long-awaited Human Tissue Bill – which cleared the Dáil last night and now goes to the President to sign into law.

Under the new legislation, adults are now automatically considered as organ donors – unless they specifically opt out. However, Family Consent is still required.
