Townlands In Focus – Foohagh And Fanore

On Tuesday’s Morning Focus, Alan was joined by Colm Liddy who is a historian and author. Colm discussed the townland of Foohagh which is located close to Kilkee along with Fanore. He spoke about the townland of Fanore and it’s history where we believe is the first place there were human beings present in County Clare. He described the people living in the area of Fanore 6000 years ago, who were hunter gatherers. He also mentioned the local parish scandal that occurred in Fanore between a local school teacher and the local priest. Colm also made reference to the townland of Foohagh. He discussed some of the memorable people that have been in the area and highlighted the sea stack which is located off it’s coast. The sea stack comes from the ruins of a monastery that was also built off the coast around the year 580 AD.
