Clare Premier Division: Newmarket Celtic 2-3 Avenue United

Avenue United are the Clare Premier Division champions.

David Russell’s side wrapped up their crown with a game to spare after beating reigning champions Newmarket Celtic in McDonough Park.

The Ennis side had to come from behind twice to win, with Newmarket opening the scoring through Eoin Kelly just 94 seconds into the game.

Mark Roche levelled proceedings with a glancing near post header from an Avenue corner, but a wonder strike by Davy Lennon had Newmarket 2-1 ahead at half time.

Parity was restored on the 50 minute mark as Jamie Roche capitalised on some poor defending to slot home, and it was Eoghan Thynne who netted the winning goal with a tidy finish to secure the win.

The sides will meet again on Saturday May 25th in the Ennis Carpets Clare Cup final
