There were wins on the opening day of the Premier League season for Blackpool, Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers and Wolves. Newcomers Blackpool were 4-0 winners at Wigan, while Aston Villa with James Milner on the scoresheet managed a 3-0 win over West Ham at Villa Park.
Blackburn Rovers started the new season with a narrow 1-0 victory over Everton at Ewood Park, while Mick McCarthy’s Wolves’ side were 2-1 winners at home to Stoke.
