Galway will be without their talisman for the Tribesmen's Allianz League opener against Clare.

Joe Canning is certain to miss the start of the League after suffering a suspected broken finger in the Tribesmen's Walsh Cup win over Offaly yesterday.

Antony Cunningham's side beat the Midlanders 2-22 to 1-13, but Canning will now be out for the opening day clash against Clare on February 15th.

Meanwhile, a member of Davy Fitzgerald's backroom team says they've learned much from this year's Waterford Crystal Cup.

Saturday's semi-final loss to Cork means the Banner have failed to reach the final of the pre-season competition for the first time since 2011.

The Rebels will now face Limerick in the decider, while Clare's attentions turn to the League.

Selector Michael Browne feels Clare's two outings against Cork and Tipperary have given them much to think about.
