Shannon swimmer Chris Bryan will make history tonight when he becomes the first Irish competitor in an open water event at the World Aquatics Championships.

The Ennis swimming club member will enter the water in Shanghai in the early hours of tomorrow morning, when he will swim against the world’s best in the 10 kilometre event.

He’ll then compete in the 5 kilometre event on Friday.

Chris Bryan has been in good form so far this year, and won an event in the European Open Water Swimming Cup in May.
