Last years Intermediate champions showed no regard for their underdogs tag in the third Clare Senior Football Championship Quarter Final, producing a display of ruthless efficiency throughout an enthralling affair at Cusack Park, Ennis.

Corofin converted eleven of their fourteen first half scoring opportunities with Robin Mounsey, Seán O’Brien, Eoin Davoren, Diarmuid Cahill, Gearóid Kelly and Jamie Malone all finding their range and had carved out a 0-07 to 0-03 lead by the end of the first quarter.

Lissycasey came roaring back into the contest however and led by an Aaron Griffin haul of four points from play in the opening period, they had leveled matters by the thirtieth minute.

However a Robin Mounsey point on the stroke of half time ensured Corofin enjoyed an 0-11 to 0-10 advantage at the interval.

On the restart Aaron Griffin picked up where he had left off and from the throw-in ran through the heart of the Corofin defence to level matters for the second occasion.

The games pivotal moment however occurred shortly afterwards when Lissycasey midfielder, Mikey O’Neill received his marching orders on forty-two minutes upon receipt of a black card following a first half yellow reducing his side to fourteen men.

Despite conceding the next two scores, Corofin at the third attempt would eventually capitalize on their numbers advantage and when substitute Kevin Keane assisted Jamie Malone to goal just twelve minutes from time the floodgates opened.

The North Clare Men would outscore their opponents by 0-06 to 0-02 in the final ten minutes to seal the victory as it finished in Cusack Park, Corofin 1-19 to Lissycasey 0-16.
