Up next for Clare is a trip to Mullingar on Sunday afternoon to take on a Westmeath side who got their year off to a winning start with victory over Offaly.

Fitzgerald says while his side didn’t make it easy at times, he was glad to see they way they battled to secure the victory.

Elsewhere in Division Three, Antrim were 2-14 to 2-7 winners over Limerick while Down beat Wicklow by 0-18 to 0-13
