Murphy just misses out on medal

Irish swimmer Grainne Murphy finished just outside a medal place in fourth at the European Swimming Championships in Budapest.

The Wexford teenager produced the best performance of her career – taking nearly four seconds off her own national record – but, agonisingly, she missed-out on third place by just five hundreths of a second.

Denmark’s Lotte Friis led from start to finish to take gold ahead of Ophelie Etienne of France, while Italy’s Federica Pellegrini pipped Murphy for bronze.
