Clare’s U20 football manager feels the removal of the pre-season development competition for the age grade will leave a void to be filled in the lead up to the championship.
2024 will be the first year of a new two-part round robin series which replaces the old knockout format, with Clare now guaranteed at least four intercounty games at U20 level.
The pre-season competitions have been discontinued, with Clare having competed in and won the O’Connor Cup in recent years.
Miltown’s Michael Neylon says while the expansion of the championship is to be welcomed, it could have been implemented without cutting out those other games.
